Integrating hydrothermal glasses into dental porcelains is certainly the greatest scientific achievement of DUCERA so far. While in situ, hydrothermal porcelains such as Duceragold develop a silicon hydroxyl layer with abrasive properties resembling those of enamel. This has been supported by numerous clinical studies. This new class of material enables clinically acceptable full coverage restorations to be fabricated, even in the occlusal region, which was not possible using conventional porcelains. SYMBiOceram is the logical application for hydrothermal porcelains for alloys within the classic range of coefficients of thermal expansion and with considerably lower firing temperatures.
